TRON 3

Apparently, they have been mulling over the possibility of a Tron 3 for a long time.  However, two teaser trailers were released.  Tron 3 is going to involve the actions of Alan, RAM's creator, and Sam Flynn as they deal with their titular enemy -- the Master Control Program.

So, far, so good, Disney has a good sequel on their hands.  If they don't screw it up, we can get the Rest of the Story.  Why Edward Dillinger is working for ENCOM.  Why he's communicating with the MCP, and why he was so relaxed as to ENCOM OS 12 being released on the Web.

And why RAM's creator ("Alan, can I have some of your popcorn?") is doing Flynn Lives.  The Grid, which Flynn was creating, was to be the evolution of the Net before the Web took over.  And it looks like TRON 3 will be set not on the ENCOM mainframe or Flynn's computer lab -- but the Web.

Writing a comic for furries only has one little problem

Some expect sex to be in the mix.  Writing a clean comic about the human body (or any kind of body) seems to be out.  Anyway, this all started with the dragon wife comic.  I wanted to write about what it would be like to have a dragon for a wife.  It would have been a great, comic.  But I couldn't pull off the comedy at the time. The situation I am in makes it hard to pull off comedy.

Comedy is fun, but a secret to great comedy is looking at life from fresh eyes.  So the Dragon Wife became the Dragon roommate (or flatmate).  I published it on So Furry, which happened to be a big mistake.  Immediately everyone thought that the dragon and the human are going to have some sex.  I fought it.

I did a nice nude comic and I'm still doing a comic on nudism.  However, I started issue two and everyone again, wants them to pair up. The problem is, if they have sex, it would be the end of the comic and I'm still not ready to do the Dragon Wife comic.  Sometimes, I think a lot of the people at So Furry think with their brains between their legs rather than their brains inside their heads.

They aren't incomprehensible.  For some reason, something else arouses them other than humans.  Some truly may be animals in a human body.  But others go nuts because they can't get a date or find someone to love.  They also look up porn to satisfy their fetishes.  I don't know how or why they took over anthropromorphic art, but they did.

So, why am I talking about this?  It disturbs me.  Greatly.  That a BDSM fetish group is invading Lupin Lodge.  They are putting on a "human fox hunt" and some will be wearing costumes to do it.  It's pretty destructive to the naturist movement, and what is scarier is that AANR -- the American Association of Nude Recreation -- is not doing a thing about it.  If this gets out, and it will, it will embarrass AANR and TNS.

I'm a nudist.  I'm saying it right now, I'm a nudist!  I'd rather be naked, but I want to do it in an environment where my way of life is respected and not seen as some aberration.  I want my comic to reflect my philosophy about the body.  Chaste nudity, not sexual nudity.  Nudism isn't about BDSM, really.  This is really bad for Naturism and it's bad for the country as a whole.

Victoria 5, a report

No doubt some of you downloaded the Victoria 5 preview.  Technically, I didn't have to, since I downloaded the 4th Edition beta of DAZ Studio.  So far, I didn't sign any Non-Disclosure Agreement so I'm not under legal pressure not to talk about Victoria 5 (I saw no digital contract).  Plus, I can't give a report on the DAZ Forums because of my Libertarian views on Copyright.   Still, I won't include screenshots of Victoria 5.

This is a report that I would have typed out on the DAZ Forums.  However, I was kicked out, they told me I could go back but I have to stop talking like a Libertarian.  If I'm not allowed to talk libertarian 'drivel' on a controversial thread about copyright, I ain't going back.  I'm banned forever.  Ahem, back to Victoria 5.

First Look
In a nutshell, Victoria 5 is somewhat an improvement over Victoria 4.  Michael comes in with her, and when you start the Beta, you get an androgynous figure: Victoria's head on Michael's body with some feminine curves.  She/he is a wet dream for those who are attracted to androgynous people (i.e. traps).   However, you can convert V5 into a more male figure by dialing M4 morphs.  Also, you can convert V5 into a more female figure by dialing the Victoria 4 morph.

Posing
Posing Victoria 5 is still like posing Victoria 4.  You still get that plastic doll look.  It's not as pronounced, meaning that they increased the polygons she is composed of.  Victoria 5 will not accept V4 poses, as I did apply a V4 pose to Victoria 5 and the toes were completely distorted.  This means that new pose sets will be created for DAZ Studio and Poser.  Still, it isn't a huge improvement over V4.  The model doesn't have a dynamic musculature.  Meaning that certain poses still doesn't look right.  Like a cancan pose.  So you still can't pose a Rockette dance pose realistically.

Skin
Victoria 5 loads with a realistic skin by default.  That means that there are a lot of blemishes and moles that comes with the skin.  There are no nipple definition, so it isn't perfect.  Still some parents might not want their boys working with V5 and DAZ Studio.  After all, there isn't a painted on bikini.  V5 is nude out of the box.

I'm still looking forward
To working with Victoria 5.  However, since DAZ isn't making huge improvements I am a little disappointed.  One day before downloading the 4th Edition beta, I saw this video:

Also, this video should illustrate what I was looking for or expecting:

So far, I'm not sure if V5 has these expectations.  There appears to be no strong improvements to the figure, but I don't animate, so I don't know.  Still, there are some surprises about V5.  She or he is truly unimesh.

Character Du Jour: Milia Gloriosa

What do you get when you stuff a drama archetype in a little package?

Milia Gloriosa!

Milia Gloriosa is a halfling.  Created by combining A4, S4, and G4 morphs!  Her body is 50% Aiko 4 and 50% the Girl.  Combined with S4 short and petite morphs -- and further reduced to 50% size.  Here she is, compared with one of her soldiers to show her size.

I had the idea when I watched a segment of A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum were Miles Gloriosus was played by a crooning dwarf (with a schlong that makes women swoon!).

Here are her Pathfinder statistics!

To play her while you game, the best thing to do is have your wife sing "Bring me my bride" but change bride to groom at the table when she's introduced.   Oh, and tell her to ham it up. :D

Adventures in Terre nearing completion!

It's one of those days where I'm getting excited!

So, Query: What happens when a writer visits QuestionCopyright.org after he is completely unsatisfied with the GSL?

YOU GET AN OPEN SOURCED ADVENTURE!

Originally going to be released for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Journey to Terre is going to have it's IP released under the Creative Commons License -- allowing for recopying and derivative works!  Love the setting but play 4e?  No problem!  Work out 4e stats, play through the adventure, and rewrite the adventure replacing Pathfinder Stats with 4e stats.  And sell it on RPGnow!

Love the Setting, but own an entirely different system?  No problem!  Rewrite the adventure to your setting's specifications and release it on RPG.now.  Think I'm nuts?

There are some undeniable benefits for releasing the IP as open source:
* Every COPY adds VALUE to the product.  When I released my first OGL product by myself, there was some problems.  IT was to niche-y-, and I copyrighted the product.  Not this time.  I want everyone from America to China to have a copy.

* Every DERIVATIVE WORK based on the Adventure adds value to the product as well.  The world becomes Richer as a matter of course.  Lore is added upon and added upon ad infinitium.  With today's publishing technology, it's much easier for a person to add to their favorite work.  Shakespeare's plays are the most performed works in the World.  Mostly because of translations and availability.  There is anime based on some plays, for instance.

* Creative Commons allows for Author Saturation.  The biggest danger to an author is not death, but obscurity.  Only the top one half of one percent writers actually are lauded.  Copyright prevents author saturation in various markets.

The world is one that is an Ahistorical Greek Setting.  This pretty much means that the world has some Anachronisms.  Marsela might be Greek through and through, but another town might be based on Renaissance Paris, for instance; and another might be based on 11th Century Britain.  Or a whole country might be based on Old Kingdom Egypt or Israel during the time of Samson or David.

The map is simple.  Barbarian lands are to the west, to the east are the Orc hordelands -- a mountainous land, and to the North are the elves.  To the south across the sea is an Egyptian kingdom.  Beyond the Hordelands is the End of the World and Terra Nova -- lands that aren't mapped.  Beyond the Barbarian Lands is the Trackless Ocean.

"THAR BE DRAGONS!"

However, the most interesting thing are the skies.  Dominating the northern sky are three planets: Saturn, Venus, and Mars.  Heathens all over the world worship these planets as deities.  The adventure is simple: you start in the modern day, get transported to Terre after examining an out of place artifact, and you have to find your way home.

Or, at least it's a start to finding your way home. :)

It's one of those days

That I want to go to the Koala Bay naturist resort and just lose myself.

Cover Art for Journey to Terre

The cover art for Journey to Terre is completely rendered, so this pretty much means that I'm on the home stretch of writing the rough draft and seeking playtesters.  If you notice, I'm getting a little better with my lighting schemes since I did the cover art for the Barsoom RPG.

this practically means that my professional work is getting much better. Soon, I'll be able to render in Maya.  If I can (posed in DAZ, rendered in Maya, that sort of thing).  What do you think?  The lighting is 3Delight using the Uber-Environment 2 light shader.

I went looking around for reference works of Dejah Thoris and I found this:

Artists have wild imaginations based on the book A Princess of Mars.   I'll have a version of Dejah myself up today.  Perhaps in this very post. :)

An Open Appreciation for Paizo

I am impressed on how PAIZO treats the 3rd Party Community for the OGL. Since I read the open letter about how 3rd Party Publishers enjoy the service they get from the company -- like being used as a sales point.

I write third party products, and I am very impressed. As a libertarian, it has become increasingly important to me to look at the issues on Personal Property Rights and how the Free Market operates. In this appreciation, I'd like to focus on Free Market Enterprise. The D&D Market is incredibly small compared to say: several Sports. This niche caters to the most creative of people (who are also very intelligent, I may add). Eventually, they create their own works -- campaign setting, house rules, what have you.

The OGL and GSL allows them to create their own work and to publish them for others to use. While the 3rd Party Publishers of 4th Edition materials are left in the lurch, PAIZO has realized that competition is healthy for the hobby as a whole when there is some level of cooperation. By all appearances the level of cooperation is very high. PAIZO uses 3rd Party OGL material in their products as well as do some low level advertising for these companies. It makes me smile. Back in the day, Wizards used very little if no OGL content (there was one or two exceptions -- the Razor Boar and the Scorpion Folk in the MM2). I don't know what has gotten ahold of Wizards' thinking; but people who bought the products felt that Wizards' material is absolutely the best and they buy nothing but wizards' products in later years.

Why that happened, I have a theory. But I do believe that the Free Market was in action! Now that things have sorted themselves out, the OGL community can continue forward with support from PAIZO itself. This will help a lot of people down the road. Not only we writers have reviewers, but we also have the people working at PAIZO, and that's a good thing. This actually helps everyone involved in knowing what might be gems, and what might be dross. It also helps us writers to actually write well and better additions to Pathfinder.

So this is a good thumbs up!
